Does God Love The Devil?
We are taught that God is love. His love is such that He gave us free will to either love Him back or not. We even have the choice to turn our back on Him. Not believe in Him. And to preach and teach against Him and His existence; and to mock those who believe in Him. His love is such that He allows...

When on Vacation, Don't Forget Mass
We’re now in the middle of the summer vacation season, and one of the great things about being Catholic is that no matter where you go on vacation, you can attend Mass. What’s that? You don’t go to Mass on vacation? Really? Oh, that’s not good. Vacation is an opportunity to get away from work for a ...

Blueprint for Catholic Living: Part 3, The Divine Paradox of Christianity
As we live out the divine blueprint given to us by our Lord, we build the Church and act in unity as the Body of Christ. Every moment becomes an act of worship. We experience God’s mercy and power as we learn obedience through humility and submission. How we come to understand and discern God’s will...

The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayer-less studies, prayer-less work, and prayer-less religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but trembles when we pray.
As we Americans celebrated Independence Day, it’s important for us to consider the spiritual independence from evil that each of us needs, and which only Jesus can give. Today’s Gospel helps us reflect on the conflict required to achieve spiritual independence....

Confession Can Make You Whole Again
Stephen Colbert and I share a couple of things in common. We are both Catholic and we both go to confession. But we differ in which he conducts mock midnight confessions on late night TV, while I practice the Sacrament of Reconciliation in real life....

A Darker Night
Many are the times that things go bump in the night, and the day, too, in our lives. We are ALL --all beings, born in that beautiful state of innocence and a priceless gift sent from God. However, as we grow---many times--we will encounter the sins of mankind passed down....

Blueprint for Catholic Living: Part 2, The Body Walking in Worship
The Church is God’s temple on earth, and believers are the living stones that form that holy house. We have been called to follow our Father’s divine blueprint for our lives: building on the sturdy foundation of Christ the cornerstone, living in holy fellowship with one another, being an open door t...

We live in a culture that has, for centuries now, cultivated the idea that the skeptical person is always smarter than one who believes. You can almost be as stupid as a cabbage as long as you doubt.
Despite the witness of the other apostles, Thomas lacked faith. We too are very much like him, especially in times of great trial and suffering, We feel that the Lord has abandoned us....

Stark Reality of Forgiveness / Sequel to "The past is gone....."
How do I know that I have been forgiven by God when the same sin keeps rearing its ugly head and confronts me head-on? "Go ahead," Satan seems to say, "now that you’ve fallen again try and find your way back to God. How many times do you think God will tolerate your continuous trek down that empty ...

Take Over the World
“Artificial intelligence will soon take over the world—you do realize that don’t you?” Sasha popped a red M & M into her mouth and crunched. Her gaze swept across the campus with a practiced eye. “I think it already has.”...

Blueprint for Catholic Living: Part 1, Laying the Foundation
When I was six years old I had a special treasure chest. It was only an old black plastic lunchbox, the kind a man might take to a construction site. I had filled it with all sorts of precious trinkets: marbles and magnifying glasses, cereal box prizes and secret notes, bouncing balls and classic co...

My "St. Francis Moment" with the Poor
I was walking downtown on my way to work one morning a few weeks ago and a homeless woman sitting down on the sidewalk beckoned to me for help. I gave her a granola bar that I had in my purse, but she showed me that she didn’t have any teeth, so I gave her a few dollars instead. Gracious for the gif...

Did I offer peace today? Did I bring a smile to someone's face? Did I say words of healing? Did I let go of my anger and resentment? Did I forgive? Did I love? These are the real questions. I must trust that the little bit of love that I sow now will bear many fruits, here in this world and the life to come.
We are called to be healers like Jesus who brings life to those who suffer....

I don't need a church to tell me I'm wrong where I already know I'm wrong; I need a church to tell me I'm wrong where I think I'm right.
Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was the Roman Church, the Church that spread from that city throughout the world....
