From Grief, or Struggle, or Hardship- To Grace
Today, I was finishing a book I’m reading by my dear friend, Jeannie Ewing, entitled: From Grief to Grace, The Journey from Tragedy to Triumph, published by Sophia Institute Press. The impetus of this book is in sharing her story and struggles with being the mother of a medically fragile child. Ther...

Scripture says we are saved by.... By grace: Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast....

Discovering, Following and Sharing Christ
I was born with a condition called Spina Bifida, which basically without getting very scientific just means that my spine and spinal cord weren’t developed properly and this caused a lot of damage to my body. Over the years I’ve had over 20 surgeries the first of which occurred within 24 hours of my...

The Love You Didn't Know You Had
Kindness is love’s meaningful “point of contact” with another; that’s why kindness is described as “the touch of love.” Jude 21 says, “Stay always within the boundaries where God’s love can reach and bless you.” It’s within those same boundaries that you can reach and bless others. Those boundaries ...

Purgatory; A Cleansing Fire
(This post isn't meant as a defense of the doctrine of purgatory, but as more of an explanation of purgatory. So you might notice missing Bible verses usually cited as "proofs," like 2 Maccabees 12:39-46, Matthew 5:24-26, Matthew 12:32, and 1 Corinthians 3:11-15)...

The Audacity of Writing
Everyone once in a while, seemingly disparate even oxymoronic thoughts become as one: love and writing are like that for me today. There is an audacity necessary to write and to love. Love thy neighbor as you love yourself....

A closer look at Our Mother's July 2 message to us.
Because She loves us as a Mother I refer to her as Mother. Can we not be full of joy when Mother reminds us of Her real living presence?...

Why Choose Hate?
Sometimes I wish I had a direct line to God so that I could ask Him whatever I want to whenever I please. This week, I wish I could ask Him about why people choose to hate....

There is only one way of victory over the bitterness and rage that comes naturally to us--To will what God wills brings peace.
Is it possible to do mighty deeds in Jesus’ name without knowing him? And the answer that came to me was "yes"....

Speak, for your servant is listening
One of the things I did in my last job was to listen to people. I would hear their concerns without comment. Sometimes I’d even put my hand over my mouth, to remind myself not to speak....

What I wish I knew before I decided to study theology
When I made the decision to study theology in addition to English in college, I had no idea I was embarking on a faith journey as well as an academic one. But that’s how it is with Catholicism: ours is a faith of both the head and the heart. Learning is supposed to enhance our faith and vice versa....

Remember your weaknesses.
We all have weaknesses. Remembering your weaknesses sounds like putting yourself down, but that is not the purpose. We need to remember our weakness, so that we can avoid our weaknesses or strengthen ourselves against them. Just trying to forget they exist does no good....

Infallibility of The Church
The use of infallibility in Catholic theology is rather restrictive; it is a Catholic dogma and has been taught through the ages. It means that, by Divine assistance, the Church (of Christ), is preserved from error, or even the possibility of error, in definitive dogmatic teachings regarding faith ...

Love demands freedom. It always has, and it always will. We are free to resist, reject, and rebel against God's ways for us. - We can have all the hell we want.
St Aloysius Gonzaga, a Jesuit saint who died in the year 1591, was the eldest of seven children and heir to the family title. His father, the marquis of Castiglione (Italy) dressed his little boy of four in a suit of armor and proudly took him to inspect the troops. However, as Aloysius grew, the lu...

You Will Move Mountains
I love it when I have an epiphany! Well, sometimes I do. I have discovered that often they mean work: physically, emotionally and/or spiritually. Today’s epiphany encompasses the latter two which, if you ask me, usually poses a greater challenge than any physical requirement....
