Is there Truth?
Some say that you have your truth and I have mine meaning that everything is relative. They should talk to my former teachers. They seemed to believe there was one truth. There would be no convincing them that 1 + 1 = 3 or that debits and credits are interchangeable....

Nothing limits intelligence more than ignorance; nothing fosters ignorance more than one's own opinions; nothing strengthens opinions more than refusing to look at reality.
Bartimaeus refuses to let the crowd quiet his voice. Yes, he is a beggar, but he somehow knows this is a moment that too quickly can pass. He cannot let that happen. He must reach out to Jesus....

Until That Day
I have often tried to imagine the message in Jesus’ eyes when He looked at Peter. Whatever it was, Peter melted with remorse....

Rise and Walk
After entering a boat, Jesus made the crossing, and came into his own town. And there people brought to him a paralytic lying on a stretcher. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Courage, child, your sins are forgiven.”...

In an age of constant live connections, the central question of self-examination is drifting from ‘Who are you?' towards ‘What are you doing?
Why is it so hard for us to look at ourselves? Is it because we want to avoid the tough questions? Is it because if we were really honest with ourselves, we would see that we need a lot of work and don’t want to commit to make a change? Even if our heart is in the right place and we are honestly wan...

The Communion of Saints
We talk a lot, in the Church, about the Communion of Saints. But there are lots of misconceptions about this doctrine, by Protestants and Catholics alike, I'd like to try to clear some up....

Time to Offer an Apology Over Judgement
Catholics are the foundation of the Church and we should be able to set the example for others to live by. We do not occupy the throne of judgment nor should we pass it from the pews. We are in need of healing and forgiveness not judgment or condemnation....

Peace be with You!
We all desire to have peace. It lies within our desire for God, from whom all peace comes. We want peace in our heart and soul. But too often, we keep ourselves too busy to find it....

Reflections On a "Memory"
In my Facebook “Memories” post that they put on our Newsfeed daily I came across some comments that I made last year at this time. The Supreme Court of the United States of America had just handed down their decision legalizing gay marriage in all 50 states and the territories....

Pope Francis and Eliminating Waste in Your Endowment or Retirement Account
A little over 1 year ago Pope Francis addressed “every person living on this planet” with his encyclical “Laudato Si”; Praise be to you, my Lord. Many refer to it as an encyclical on the environment, but it is so much more than that! The Pope explained that extreme consumerism, materialism, and pov...

Too many people spend money they haven't earned, to buy things they don't want, to impress people that they don't like.
The culture that surrounds modern persons in the West presumes that each person is his or her own boss. Modern Western culture teaches children from an early age that they are not meant to serve anyone or anything. In fact, both God and mammon serve me and my needs!...

Pope Saint Marcellus, Martyr
The Bishop of Rome was dead in 304. Diocletian's persecution was in full force. Meeting places were confiscated as well as some of the burial grounds. People were in fear of being caught at Mass or other services and the presbyters were in hiding when not needed....

Cinderella and Her Fiberglass Slippers
I have cold feet, and it has nothing to do with being afraid of entering into a nuptial arrangement. Heck, we jumped onto that amusement park ride some thirty years ago. No, I actually have cold feet; literally. My husband can readily testify to this brutal fact....

On To Forgiveness...
This week concluded our journey through the virtue of kindness and moved to forgiveness. For children ages five to eight the thought of not forgiving was something they could not understand. Each child was given a balloon to blow air into. They held it tight to not let any air escape....

God Makes Himself Known
I attended short lectures explaining Lectio Divina*. I read the daily Mass readings. I read the writings of the saints. I followed the steps to Lectio Divina, focused on certain words, phrases or passages and meditated on these, I paused to pray. Sadly, I got stuck on the most critical step, the 4th...

Mercy: Relationship Restored
After my last Confession, the words “Relationship Restored!” popped into my head, coupled with a deep sense of peace. Truly though, isn’t that what mercy does? It restores our most treasured friendship with God....

Learn how to separate the majors and the minors. A lot of people don't do well simply because they major in minor things.
Whatever we choose as the treasure of our life, there will our heart gravitate. There will we spend the energies of our heart, mind and soul. But how does one go about choosing one’s treasure? Is this process of choosing purely random and spontaneous? Or does it come about by virtue of where we trai...
