In his 1911 tongue-in-cheek essay, “Studies in the Literature of Sherlock Holmes,” Msgr. Ronald Knox coined the term Sherlockismus to describe “a special kind of epigram,” an ambiguous statement that is nevertheless memorable....

"Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God........."
“Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God………and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you, Hallelu, Hallleuia." Revisiting Halloween in the Philippines
With the forces of globalization, secularization, social media, and whatever else, the Halloween I remember as a child in the Philippines in the 1980s, or what’s called “Todos Los Santos” (All Saints Day) or “Undas” might be morphing into something completely different nowadays. It might also be los...

How to Avoid Being Like a Pharisee
In the New Testament of the Bible we hear Jesus often rebuking the Pharisees for being hypocrites. We see them as a group of people that Christ points out as an example to avoid. We don’t want to be like the Pharisees; so as long as we avoid hypocrisy, we’re safe, right? Is that all there was to it?...

Stupid Dog
First of all, let me dispel any rumours that I am a kind person, willing to help, and always jovial. More likely, it is that I am often being taken advantage of. People tend to mistake my quiet nature, shy even, for being a mug who will always oblige when asked nicely....

I think faith is the small mustard seed of opportunities every day. For example, 'Am I going to love this person? Am I going to share my faith with this person? Am I going to pray that little prayer?' It really is a daily thing where you seize those little mustard seed opportunities and then see what God does.

6 sinners turned saints and what we can learn from them
In a society where we are quick to judge others for the way they look, they way they talk, were they come from, or sins they have committed, we would do ourselves a great justice to remember the Faith Hall of Fame contains terrible sinners who became saints....

The wizard of Oz says look inside yourself and find self. God says look inside yourself and find the Holy Spirit. The first will get you to Kansas. The latter will get you to heaven. Take your pick. – No offense to Kansas!
In Saint Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, we are called to imitate God and to live in love by being kind, compassionate and forgiving. The Scripture message today is very poignant for all that has been occurring in our cities, states, country and throughout the world....

Why do so many Democrats claim to be Catholic?
The Catholic Church emphatically teaches that abortion is a mortal sin worthy of automatic excommunication. The Democrat party stands for abortion on demand and heinously supports even partial birth abortion where a child is murdered after he is born. And yet, many Catholics still vote Democrat....
