A Special Fundraiser to Help Families Find Deeper Faith
In 2012, after a long journey trying to find a new spiritual director, I came upon the Mercedarian Religious Order. The Order originated 800 years ago in Spain through their founder St. Peter Nolasco. I knew nothing of the religious order at the time but was blessed to find out they are headquartere...

New Atheism And Protestantism
If someone asked you, “What does the New Atheism have in common with Protestantism?” you might say, “Nothing!” It would seem that devout Bible believing Christians such as Protestants would be as far away from atheists as possible. Yet there is more to this comparison than meets the eye....

All Things Work for Good
At this juncture, the causes of suffering begin to reflect their sublime purpose, which is ultimately good, not bad. Paul's indomitable Christian optimism blazed beyond his prison cell when he wrote, while still shackled, his poignant words to the Philippians...

Day 295 – Words with Double Meanings
Today’s reading for study: John 3:1-21 Besides containing the verse most cited at football games, John chapter 3 is an excellent example of how Jesus taught by getting people to think in new ways. There are at least three times in the chapter were Jesus does this....

My Online Dating Mistake
Admittedly, I was reluctant to try online dating at the age of, well, my age. After a lengthy marriage of 20+ years, two adopted children and a mortgage, online dating is not where I thought I’d find myself. After thoughtful consideration, talking to a few priests, and then waiting for an annulmen...

You tell them - you tell them there's a cost.....Every decision we make in life, there's always a cost.
Christ became human to free us from our sins, not from our humanity. Underneath the stains and tarnish of the life of each of us, there lies the beauty of a human person—body and soul—created in the Image and likeness of God....

ONE THING Proves the Early Church was Catholic
Many debates have arisen over time between Christians, some leading to breaks in communion, and most have appealed to the Scripture or the early Church to justify their viewpoint on various issues. There are so many issues at play, it is hard to keep track of all of them in a discussion....

Why I Am Catholic
A conversation between a Catholic (CT) and a Protestant (NT) NT: Yesterday I saw your post on the feast of the Chair of Peter. In other words, the celebration of Papal Authority and Apostolic Succession. CT: Yes. It is not a common chair Catholics celebrate on the 22nd of February but an office, t...

God's Hiding Place: Affliction Without Restriction
The Lord's answer-by-way-of-question, "Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?" (Job 38:2; see also 42:3), provided for Job, in a staggering theophany, a musical insight into the purpose and value of suffering....

Edge of Life
Oldearth @3000 BC The sun rose hazily into the sky. Clouds swirled with the red glow of an angry firmament that bespoke of troubles in the heavens. A sharp breeze with sudden, intermittent fierce gusts, tussled the pine trees as they groaned in warning. The ground, hard as a rock, made Ishtar’s toe...

The Gospel lives in conversation with the culture, and if the Church holds back from the culture, the Gospel itself falls silent.
“You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” Life would never be the same for Peter after this moment....

Reconciling Free Will with God's Omniscience: Evidence from C.S. Lewis and My Life
Does free will exist if God is all-knowing? Does God lack omniscience if free will for humanity exists? Questions such as these have flummoxed philosophers since the inception of philosophic thought!...

Day 293 – The Lamb of God
Two interesting things in today reading. First, we see Jesus coming to the area where John the Baptist is preaching. Twice, John the Baptist says this, The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! Jn 1:29...

It is wise to direct your anger towards problems -- not people; to focus your energies on answers -- not excuses.
In this reading, we are told to love our neighbor, however difficult this may be, however unlovable the other person may be. It is not easy to love one who has wronged us or caused us pain or ridiculed us. It is so much easier just to ignore them or forget them....

In Defense of the Roman Catholic Church, the Catholic Catechism, and 2000 years of Tradition.
I originally prepared this article for publication on All Souls Day but held back for reasons added later in the document. However, because of continued expressions of incorrect theological teaching, I can no longer remain silent and feel that this must be printed to keep the certainty of sound Chu...
