The Best Metabolism Boost... For Your Soul
When I first wake up in the morning, I stretch, sometimes for longer than I have time for but it feels good. It’s also healthy; it gets your joints moving and your blood flowing. It’s a great metabolism boost. I may not pop out of bed immediately after, but it gets me moving better than if I hadn’t....

A Vestige of Turmoil in a World Without God
We are living in a time where lack of faith in God, mistrust in government, and disillusionment with each other has become a way of life for too many people, whose belief in something positive has blossomed into doubt and produced far too much anxiety and depression...

Why do we celebrate the saints?
In Brazil, we have in June, the traditional “June Festivals,” originating from the celebrations of Saint Anthony (on the 13th), Saint John the Baptist (on the 24th) and Saint Peter (on the 29th). In these festivals, we have special dances, typical food, different games, bonfires, fireworks, all in h...

Day 51 – Caiaphas
Today we read about the arrest and trial of Jesus. Many false witnesses are produced but none can produce evidence sufficient to convict Jesus. Despite the many accusations Jesus remains silent. Eventually he is accused of saying he will tear down the temple and rebuild it in three days. Still h...

How to love the sinner
There's a saying that says, "Love the sinner, hate the sin," but in today's world we often see the acceptance of sin and we call people Pharisees if they believe the law should be followed. But there is a distinction between people who have love in their hearts and follow the law, and those who onl...

The True Nature of God
Once I had a conversation with a member of another religion and I realized our definition of God was not the same, because as a Catholic, I believe in the Blessed Trinity....

How's That Again?
Frequently our discouragement comes from not really listening to the constant messages the Lord sends to us. We must truly listen with our hearts ---and keep listening until his entire message gets through, whatever way it is communicated....

Day 50 – The Last Supper and the Agony in the Garden
Today we read what is arguably the climax to the story of salvation history. The Passover is at hand and Jesus shares a Passover meal with his Apostles. Remember, the Passover is when, at the beginning of the exodus from Egypt, the angel of death passed over the houses of the Hebrews....

On Eagle's Wings
Jesus hears the prayers of the heart and never fails to reassure us. He knows how easily we give in to doubt and fear. He promises that He and the Father know and share our littlest concerns and our greatest pains. Especially during life’s most difficult times, entrust your cause to the Lord with fa...

The Case for Artificial Contraception
I think the teaching on artificial contraception is probably one of the most misunderstood teachings and Dogmas of the Church. It is so sad that so many of us, even as we sit in Catholic schools and congregations are misled and not fully informed about the reason why there is no case for artificial ...

Saint Anna Schaffer---Bedridden and in Constant Pain from being Burned, She Gave it all to Jesus
The number of saints in the Catholic Church numbers in the thousands. In fact, the exact number is open to question. Among these are many saints most of us have never heard of. These saints are the obscure spiritual gems whose stories can take your breath away. Say "hello" to Anna Schaffer....

Fire Power
There is another fire that is designed to "renew the face of the earth." It's the fire that Jesus spoke of with such ardor: "I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!" (Lk 12:49)....

Surely Folks ---You See the Connection!
We struggle with the elements of this world where we can find many “varmints and sneaky snakes” waiting to lash out with lies and false hopes to lure us from happiness. God allows all as we follow our willful way to test and strengthen our faith....

What? Wait—What Did You Say?
Preparing for Mass the other day, my mind was thinking about a son and his family. Like many Catholic parents, we watch and pray—as those grown children fail to see the need to go to church or teach their children “the way in which they should grow.” You pray for those wandering sons and daughters...

I was "Isidored" by Two Catholics and a Hebrew; It was Great*
I never knew a Catholic/Christian named Isidore. I had always thought that the name, Isidore, was primarily a Hebrew/Jewish name. In fact, several years ago, when my cousin, Vicki, discovered who our mysterious, missing grandfather was, his name turned out to be Isidore....
