Four Steps on the Path to Divine Intimacy
There is much talk these days about meditation, mindfulness, and such things. These sound like wonderful pathways to lead you to closeness with the Lord, and are sometimes practiced even in Catholic settings....

"Iuvenes pro Traditione": Cristina
Hello again! If you haven’t seen it yet, welcome to Iuvenes pro Traditione series (or at least a series of articles to bring awareness to it). This time I’ll be sharing the thoughts of my friend Cristina, 21-year old laywoman. A beautiful lady, a solid, orthodox Catholic and I think you’ll love her ...

Rock On!
Confession. Recently on the way back from a long trip I was spinning through the radio dial. Amidst a range of talk radio, jazz, classic, worship and hits...I did stop for two songs that in former days would have really captivated me: "For Those About to Rock" by ACDC, and "Foolin" by Def Leppard....

Let nothing disturb you, nothing cause you fear. All things pass; God is unchanging. Patience obtains all
In the Gospel reading, part of Jesus' parting discourse after the Last Supper, Jesus assures his disciples and us that there are many places reserved for us in his Father's house. Always ready to question, Thomas asks, "Lord, we don't know where you are going; how can we know the way?"...

Longing for "Eternal Easter"
Merely days ago, I graduated, at long last, with my Masters in Theology. Treasuring as I do all that I learned, the professors that taught me, and my classmates, all of whom became friends, the graduation itself, while welcomed, was also bittersweet in that it was an ending of a process and way-of-l...

Jesus Ascended on the FIFTH day! Just by Accident?
Jesus ascended into heaven on the FIFTH day (though Thursday is the FOURTH working day in modern times, THEOLOGICALLY it is the FIFTH day, since the FIRST day of God's Mythical Creation is SUNDAY, not Monday)...

Life's most urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'
In the Gospel reading Jesus stresses that "the servant is not greater than his master, nor is the messenger greater than he who sent him." At the same time Jesus said that, for him, leadership is shown in service, "If someone wants to be first, let him be last of all and servant of all." (Mk 9: 35)...

The first shall be last and the last shall be first.
Now, this has nothing to do with showing up late to Mass. I am pretty sure that God prefers you be there early. It may be better to ask, are we pushing others down in order to be raised up? At first, we may not see where/if we do this. A good test would be to check our humility....

Is it time to bring military metaphors in church talk?
We used a lot of military metaphors when explaining the Faith. For example, we used to be called Soldiers of Christ, and we used to refer to the Church on earth as the Church Militant. Christ himself used military metaphors....

Do You Love God?
Many of us reply too quickly and easily, "Of course I do!" This Sunday Jesus shines a bright light on what loving Him really means: "If you love me, you'll keep my commandments." (John 14:15-21)...

The Power of Poor Souls' Prayers!
“The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines purgatory as a "purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven," which is experienced by those "who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified" (CCC 1030). It notes that "this final purification of...

Mud Cookies: Imagine Feeding Your Children Some?
"When there is no food for three or four days, the children cry from the pain. So I make them mud cookies to fill up their stomachs." The missionary priest, Monsignor Patrick Marron from Food for the Poor, quoted a woman living in a village of about two hundred people about 20 miles from Port Au Pri...

As your faith is strengthened you will find that there is no longer the need to have a sense of control, that things will flow as they will, and that you will flow with them, to your great delight and benefit.
The world around us can make us spiritually blind: at times we fall prey to worldly ideas and lose sight of God's plan for us. Fragmented beliefs, especially those related to our quest for money, prestige and power, blur our vision of the simple and peaceful life God has planned for us....

Day 21 – The Sin against the Holy Spirit and the Family of Jesus
