There is no joy in this world like union with Christ. The more we can feel it, the happier we are ... With your witness, with your smile, you need to let others know that the same Father loves them, too.
Christ is at work in my life. This I know. Lent and Easter have given me the opportunity again this year to reflect on the promise of life everlasting, and how that promise has been made to me through the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ....

Day 7 - Be Perfect...
In the second half of Matthew Chapter 5 we see Jesus establish a new way of looking at moral responsibility. We go from “though shall not kill” to “love your enemy”. This is so well known to us now that its revolutionary nature is no longer appreciated....

Honour your father and mother
It is a fact that some of us, if we're fortunate, will grow old. And as we grow old, some of us may well become ill, some will live alone, some will struggle with day to day tasks, and many will have their families living far away....

Grace
Is there anything more poignant that can be said about God and His deep and abiding love for us than this wonderful portion from his countenance? This isn’t just a term to reflect upon or be in awe of, but a living proof of the Almighty’s concern for each person and his/her eternal soul, and freely...

Teaching the Rosary and Getting Blessed Back
A man recently suicidal came to the adoration chapel and started ranting. The Lord, I felt, understood his pain. When his rant ended and he said, "You are right. Mary is real and we should honor her." He was/is, a Protestant but had been coming to our church thanks to the invitation of an outreach ...

Faith isn't the ability to believe long and far into the misty future. It's simply taking God at His Word and taking the next step.
Some people don’t catch fish because they refuse to go into deep water. Jesus told Simon, “Let’s leave the shallows and go to the deep.”...

Day 6 – the Beatitudes
First, some people try to diminish the accuracy of the recording of the Beatitudes by comparing it to the other Gospels, pointing out the differences and concluding that Jesus never actually gave this sermon but rather that this is a compilation of ‘things Jesus said’....

Fear of Deception
The biggest stumbling block to Life in Christ is fear. Many Catholics are leery of any inner, spiritual revelations from their Heavenly Father because they are afraid of being deceived. However, fear of the devil cannot be stronger than our trust in God’s ability to keep us safe or we will miss out ...

Conversations with Jesus
Hey Jesus, here is the thing, I am well aware and so grateful for all your Holy Spirit has done for me and in me. The person I used to be is no longer ruling my life. But, it seems that there is still something in me that is not able to let go of some small level of control....

Dance and Doctrine: Position and Gesture
In the first post I wrote about “Dance and Doctrine”, there was a comment saying that on first instinct, the answer to the link between dance and Catholicism would be that dancers would make great altar servers. I very much hope that the one who left the comment reads this, because it inspired this ...

Faith is not the power of positive thinking; it is believing in God and trusting that His will is always best even when you cannot understand why
In this Gospel we hear of Jesus' very own disciples being overwhelmed by His appearance, even though they were just talking to each other about recognizing him in the breaking of the Bread....

Day 5 – The "Temptation" of Jesus

Enter Into Intimate Communion with Jesus Christ: It's the Only Way to Live
It is the case today that, even among those few who attend Mass each Sunday, many Catholics do not enjoy a personal, intimate relationship of communion with Christ and the rich, transformative prayer life this union entails....

Behold, I am with you always…
A recent Communion antiphon contained a message which, to me, is crucial. Taken from Jesus’ words in Matthew 28:20, it reminds us of His promise to be “with [us] always, even to the end of the age.”...

The Fear that grips us all

Every morning during meditation, I prepare myself for the whole day's struggle. Holy Communion assures me that I will win the victory; and so it is.
The word “disciple” means “one who learns”, and the two disciples of today’s Gospel passage are obviously devoted to learning. Undoubtedly they asked themselves, “what can all these amazing events mean?”...

First, a word on the Pharisees and Sadducees. Both of these were movements within Judaism. Neither of them are the levitical priests. In other words, you could be a levitical priest and you might count yourself among the Pharisees....
