Politicians and Pontius Pilate
I’m not a germaphobe, but I am a mother, and can appreciate the communal health benefits of proper hygiene. Aside from: “sit up straight,” “don’t talk with your mouth full,” and “wipe that look off your face or I’ll do it for you,” I’d wager the survey poll would place, “wash your hands” in the top ...

In confession there is a chance for mercy. St. Isidore of Seville
Sometimes I have what I call, “Holy Spirit Common Sense.” Lately I’ve been experiencing Holy Spirit Common Sense about The Sacrament of Reconciliation which I’ll refer to as Confession for the rest of this article....

To believe in something, and not try to live it, is dishonest.
If we are authentic, genuine Christians, our devotion to God will show through our love for others and our heart to serve. We won’t have to say anything at all!...

Ask and ye shall receive: America has got what it has asked for
A nation under siege. Riots, disguised as protests, are taking place all over the country. Homicide numbers continue to rise in places like Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, and Baltimore. Citizens are angry over shootings, they're angry over the protests, they're angry in general....

Make America Great--as "One Nation Under God" !
“God Bless America” is a familiar catchphrase—a kind of patriotic apothegm, found on postage stamps, rally posters, bumper stickers and even a song title. Add a simple comma and that slogan becomes a prayer: “God, bless America”—Please!...

Misplaced compassion
According to a CNN article, a child in Belgium recently asked for the right to be euthanized. The law requires the child to ask for it, and requires the parents to consent before any lethal action is taken. (If parents withhold consent, I understand the child's request is denied.)...

NFP: The Catholic Contraceptive?
Natural Family Planning (AKA NFP)- it’s one of the Catholic Church’s largest internal controversies. There are very few other doctrines of the Church that are surrounded by so much mystery and shrouded with so much misunderstanding....

Power, Women and Mary
I have spent most of my life learning what power is not. Like many perhaps most of women somewhere around my age, those of us growing up during the sixties, I eschewed the notion of living the life of the older women I grew up around- housewives and mothers....

Go into the world and do well. But more importantly, go into the world and do good.
Riches are meant for us to better serve God and men, our brothers; not to expel God from our heart and our deeds: «You cannot give yourself both to God and to Money» (Lk 16:13)....

Dive In, to the Deep, Head First!
It amazes me how many of us are jeopardizing our salvation, how many of us ‘Catholics” are risking our eternal souls. Some of us are living lives in states of grave sin because we are rationalizing and relativizing what sin is, and isn’t....

How The Government Became God
Being the family that we are, living as we do and loving the children that we do, I feel the need to enlighten puzzled Christians on why government is the new "Golden Calf", aka God....

Sleepy Scotty Shoemaker
Scotty Shoemaker was my brother’s best friend and they pal’d around together all the time. But Scotty, I recall my brother, Alain, telling me, had a paper route and often he'd fall asleep in class, because each day he had to rise real early in the morning to deliver his papers....

The Trinity Revisited
Just about a year ago I wrote a series of articles for this site on the subject of The Trinity. That series is, of course, still available in my archives here and is much more extensive than this article is intended to be. Part of what motivated this writing was a revisiting of the original, specifi...

The other day on Facebook I read a news flash that was ridiculous. I don’t even remember what it was; these implausible claims are so obvious that I’m incredulous than anyone even takes more than a moment’s notice, never mind that they seriously believe them....

Being a Catholic Woman in a Feminist World Isn't Easy
I love being a Catholic. There has never been a moment in my life when I thought of leaving my faith. That does not mean that I haven’t held my head in my hands and thought, Why? It would be so much easier to not be a Catholic....
