We must learn to wait for most prayer answers to “come around” in God’s time and in his way....

Eugenics Voters: Are You One?
I am speaking of eugenics voters as those who view the top two party candidates as the only two viable candidates and the only ones worthy of our vote....

I see God!
I conscientiously pray and as I pray I think, why do I pray or rather how dare I be so presumptions as to address the Almighty! Insignificant creature that I am. If God showed me a half second glimpse of his power, I would probably hide my face and fall to the ground or stand before the might of God...

Compliments and Praises!!!
I’m a woman who is growing, learning more about myself, and of course, my Catholic Faith. However, I came upon this document and when I opened the file, these were compliments and praises that I have saved all these years from former teachers and employers. These are excellent reminders that have h...

The Sin and Virtue Series #2
Today we continue with our series on the cardinal sins and virtues and take a look at the virtue of kindness and it's opposite, envy. At first one might ask, "How are these opposites? Isn't the opposite of Kindness … Meanness?" Today we will look at the Biblical meanings of these words and compare o...

God Bless America
This summer I read an article from a columnist advocating the removal of the song "God Bless America" from all baseball games. To push his agenda he quoted various opinion polls. Those surveyed allegedly agreed it was time for the song to be retired....

This College Kid Can Teach All of Us a Lesson*
Most Catholics know of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The Society has been helping people in need for over 180 years. What most Catholics do not know is that St. Vincent de Paul is not the founder of the society. It is simply named after him because of his lifelong example of Christian charity. So...

How to spot a false prophet - part 2
I realize when most people read a blog they want to be entertained with a fascinating story or a clever new take on a certain way of teaching. My approach is not that of an entertainer, but that of a detective. In this series, we are going through a detailed investigation of what the Bible calls fal...

The problem with labels is they lead to stereotypes - and stereotypes lead to generalizations - and generalizations lead to assumptions - and assumptions lead back to stereotypes.
In these days with constant news of terrorism, bombings, and other forms of violence on television and on the internet, it's very easy to create stereotypes with people we meet....

What I Hear at Mass
Maybe it’s just me, but I get irritated when I hear Mass referred to as a “service” by Catholics. That term sounds bland and banal to me, and it misses the point of the Mass. The Mass is not simply a remembrance of a past event or something the attendee “does” to show their respect to God, like visi...

To Be Beautiful
In a world that places so much value on beauty, how is anyone able to stand out? I could be completely surrounded by the world's most attractive people and feel surrounded by an ugliness that can't be covered up by concealer and eyeliner. You see, the world has two definitions of beauty....

It's the Kerygma, Stupid
That’s me - I’m the stupid one. I might also add fumbling, unprepared, tongue-tied and more, but mostly I was stupid. Indeed I knew better, that evening years ago, seated at the town-square café with Petra, my first friend in this my new home in post-communist Eastern Europe. Over our kaffes Amer...

Thirsting for Divine Love
From the beginning of time, loneliness has been part of the human condition. This universal experience of loneliness seems to be in opposition to the equally universal human desire to live in relationship - to love and be loved....

How would your life be different if…You approached all relationships with authenticity and honesty? Let today be the day…
Jesus’ words are meant as a caution to us! So often we can be tempted to focus on the small stuff as a way to demonstrate our superiority over others, or as a way to avoid the real issues with which we need to grapple. There are so many challenges facing people today, and we need to explore ways to ...

Abortion
Abortion: A polarizing topic that I believe gives us a sneak peek into the windows of our minds and souls. Now my intention is not to pass judgement on those who support it-actually yes it is-tons of judgement. Just as we judged slavery to be morally wrong and reprehensible to support, the topic of ...

Wait...Just A Little Bit Longer
Today marks one week that I dropped my youngest child - my son - off at college. The week has been quiet, with lots of time for thinking. I've done my best to avoid the conversations that started "So, how'd he make out?" , "What's it feel like?" and "Are you done crying?"....

A Crying Shame
“How did we get into this mess?” That is the question that has plagued and paralysed me these past few months. You see, my archbishop is currently embroiled in a legal and political controversy. He’s got better things to do – he knows he is responsible for the souls of so many and he shepherds his...

The Catholic Experience
What is "The Catholic Experience" one may ask? Many have a false understanding due to a 3rd party resource of information (gossip). It's like they read the daily tabloids for who She is (the Catholic Church), or even better they reinterpret/redefine history to explain who she is....
