How great is the value of conversation with Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, for there is nothing more consoling on earth, nothing more efficacious for advancing along the road of holiness!
How are we balancing the needs of our faith with our emotional, physical and social needs? Are we more like Martha, with our priorities focused on pleasing and serving those around us, or are we more like Mary, focused on our time spent with Christ?...

Hell Is Real - Part Two
It is an alarming reality how quickly our world is sinking deeper and deeper into sin. Everyday there is some new and horrible proof that the devil is working overtime toward the fall of humanity. You might be saying to yourself, “So? Who cares about any of that because I’m certainly not going to he...

5 Good Minutes with God - Just a pinch of yeast
As a ten year old, I loved butterscotch oatmeal cookies so much that I was more than happy to spend time in the kitchen with my mom as she taught me how to bake from scratch. Even though baking also meant cleaning the dishes, it seemed a fair trade off!...

Hell Is Real - Part One
Each year in October, I dedicate a lesson in the eighth grade catechism class I teach to the subject of hell. I felt the need, many years ago, to start this as I saw the season and celebration of Halloween to be centered more and more on the glamorization of evil and the devil....

An Emphasis on Experience
I am an experiential learner. I learned at a conference about how to successfully counsel couples that I was an experiential learner. The presenter was knowledgeable, the auditory part engaging, and the visual effects stimulating. They showed so many funny, sad, serious, and moving videos!...

Prayer: The Ongoing Battle
I walked away from a weekend feeling totally and completely worn. Physically, I had done nothing but sit and kneel, and yet I felt more tired than I had felt in a long time. I was mentally exhausted, and all I had been doing was praying and reading my bible....

Yes: a vocation demands self-denial, sacrifice. But how pleasant that sacrifice turns out to be —joy and peace — if that self-giving is complete!
It would be a mistake to confuse duty and virtue. We can easily take on daily duties, but do them without faith that God is acting through our simple efforts. We can do our daily duties without hope that what God can accomplish through our meager efforts is much more than we can imagine. To carry on...

On Saint Benedict's Ladder
Some of my education is business equivalent over long careers. This causes a need for me to stick up for myself. I suppose this may come across as: brave, selfish, defiant, impatient, illogical, haughty at best, over confident, bossy, bold, funny, flippant and in your face. These might be true at ti...

Seeing As He Sees Us.
Most of us are at least somewhat aware of how others see us. Some people think we’re great, and then there are others who think we aren’t so great. They are the ones who put us down, criticize us to the greatest degree, and go out of their way to make sure we hear all the negative things they have t...
