The Whore of Babylon as Blasphemous, Materialistic Grandeur
For a time, the godless society prospers. But, eventually, the immorality and wickedness catch up with it. When this happens, the power of the “anti-Decalogue”, manifesting the true nature of sin, tears down the materialistic society through the intrinsic consequences of moral corruption, opens its ...

Please Give Your Heart To God
If I were to ask you to give your heart to God, it would do no good. If I were to beg, plead, cry, make you feel guilty, threaten you or try to scare you into coming back to God it would do no good. If one has fallen out of God’s grace, no longer in the state of grace, one cannot come back to God wi...

How Evangelical Christians Handle Difficult Verses Part 2
In Part 1 we looked at the first 5 verses listed on the meme titled, “10 Biblical Verses That Protestants Cannot Accept (Without Becoming Catholic)”. In this second part, we’ll examine the rest. Bear in mind that the so-called “Protestant” accepts these verses since they supposedly believe in Sola S...

Father's Day and the Mark of a Real Man
I had two fathers as I grew up. Albert contributed to my genes, and was rarely in my life after he left Mom. He divorced her because he wouldn’t stay out of other women’s beds. I was four....

Let's Talk About Mom: Godmothers
I was talking to a friend of mine a while ago, who was rather confused about the necessity of godparents. At the time, her own confusion confused me. Godparents seemed such an integral aspect of the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation that I had never considered that there was something to be con...

For All Those Who Mourn... Meditations on Mercy
There is nothing that breaks a parent’s heart like the death of a child. In both readings (1 Kgs 17:17-24; Lk 7:11-17) for June 5th, the 10th Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Lord takes compassion on a brokenhearted mother and restores her child to life. God hears the prayers of those who mourn;...

Surely the Second Coming of Jesus Christ is the only hope of replacing these depressing features with trust, love, universal peace, and prosperity.
We KNOW how to live in an imperfect world. God has already “uncovered” God’s self in the very person of Jesus,...

The Gifts of our Heavenly Father
Faith can be a challenge. It doesn’t always come easily and living it, actually putting it into action, takes courage. Years ago, when I started a job with a Catholic diocese here in the U. S., two people offered me some very important insight that would help sustain me through the many trials and c...

How Evangelical Christians Handle Difficult Verses Part 1
There is no such thing as “Protestant Theology” due primarily to their false doctrine of Sola Scriptura which has resulted in thousands and thousands of denomination with thousands more just waiting for the right reason to come into existence....

What Can a relationship with Jesus Do?
How important is a relationship with Christ? In my opinion extremely. If you asked almost anyone they would agree with that, but what does it mean to be in a relationship with Christ? I have found it means you pursue Him as He pursues you or you allow Him to pursue you....

If you happen to be with an atheist who tells you that he does not believe in God, you can read him the whole library, where it says that God exists, and where it is proven that God exists, and he will not believe
Jesus called his apostles and they weren’t who we might consider to be likely candidates. Their weaknesses are so obvious as we read Scripture. But Jesus knew their hearts and their potential and knew what they could become and do for his kingdom. Jesus knows our potential and what we can do for his...

What to do in a World filled with Chaos
The world seems chaotic these days. Hate seems to permeate the air. Social media has enabled us to dehumanize. It reminds me of road rage. We think because we can’t see the person in the car, they are not human, we curse and gesture at them, having no idea of the life in the car....

Garbage In Garbage Out
I have a hard time watching television these days. I don't know if you do or not but when I watch TV it seems that the bulk of what's available is a combination of self worship, pornography, and moral indifference. It doesn't help that much of broadcast television is generally poorly written fare, w...

The devil is a liar and will try to convince you that right is wrong and wrong is right.
When my kids were growing up, I quit believing in the devil. I told them there’s no such thing as the devil. For years I didn’t believe in the devil, but when I started to get closer to God, I realized again that the devil is real and has been trying to turn me away from God for years....

Why Go?
We are constantly asking God for things; for more money, for good health, for this, for that, but have you considered that there is one thing that He is asking us. There is just one thing He wants from us; to go to Mass. That is it. It's not something that is very time consuming or hard. It's simple...

The Lord of the Rings is a Catholic story?
I teach the Catholic faith to adults and teens alike. The problem is most of them have been so compromised by the pop culture that they immediately hit the boring button when I explain the Biblical story. However, thanks to author J.R.R. Tolkien’s work in Lord of the Rings there is an alternative wa...

Sixty years and counting
Springtime is a big deal for celebrations and transitions. Priests get ordained, change parishes or celebrate years of service. Springtime also is full of graduations and the tons of parties that go with them. In my own Archdiocese, it seems as if priests are always moving....

So often people say that we should look to the elderly, learn from their wisdom, their many years. I disagree, I say we should look to the young: untarnished, without stereotypes implanted in their minds, no poison, no hatred in their hearts.
I suppose you could say that children trust because they are naive. Ideally, children don’t learn life’s hard lessons of disappointment and failure and grief when they are young....

Why Does God Permit Evil?
The problem of evil is one which has proven itself a stumbling block to the faith of many Christians in both ancient and contemporary times. One cannot help, in looking out upon the various ills that continually beset humanity, but to question whether the Christian God is in fact “good” at all, at l...
