My Thoughts On Our Lady Of Fatima
A friend of mine recently ask me what my thoughts on Our Lady Of Fatima were, and it got me to thinking a lot on the subject. I remember when I was first learning about the Catholic Church and hearing all of the wonderful things that people had witnessed in the Church I heard about Our Lady of Fatim...

The Communion of Saints at Its Best!
My son married the most incredible woman last Fall and while the nuptial mass and reception were jam-packed with friends, family, tradition, music, laughs and love, I had a calm about me all day. This calm I attribute to my new daughter-in-law’s deceased mother....

Be Christendom
How many Christians lead a double life? How many of us are Christians at only those appropriate times, Christmas and Easter, possibly every Sunday? And is it only those isolated occasions because our secular culture is marginalizing both Prayer and God? I believe so....

Stay on Target!
When our oldest son was in kindergarten, one of the educational catch phrases was, “Staying on task.” I had never heard this before, so questioned his teacher. Basically, it boiled down to this: remaining in his seat and completing a project. In his defense, he already knew his colors, shapes, a...

The Odyssey to a Committed Prayer Life
Our life is a journey. This really makes the path an exceptional challenge for me. I am notoriously directionally challenged and seem to frequently find myself lost when navigating new destinations. Saint Christopher has become a worthy and steadfast companion for me to this end....

God's Love Is Overwhelming
The weekend of March 14/15 is the Fourth Sunday of Lent, and there is a major theme running through each of the three Scripture readings: God’s incredible love for His people....

Those Gentle Urgings
Today I had an urge. I had a list of errands but something told me to delay my projects and make an Adoration pit stop. I mentally fought it. I figured it could wait till another day….one less filled with self-imposed obligations. Yet, I could not deny a persistent feeling…....

Good Samaritans in a Beep Beep World
My 10 year old son and I were out running errands the other day, and as we went from Sports Authority to Five Below (nirvana stores for a boy that age), we passed by a homeless man sitting on a concrete wall. He was tucked back a bit in some bushes surrounded by a low wall. It was cold out and win...

Go Tell It on a Mountain
Father Robert Barron, while reading his Lenten reflections brought this to my attention. A lot of things going on---on a mountain. ”The Transfiguration takes place on a mountain, and this right away places it in relation to the Old Testament. Abraham is willing to sacrifice his son on a mountain; No...

What is Prayer?
I don't know if anyone else suffers from this problem, but I tend to forget things easily. I am also not a very organized person and can be scatter-brained so if I don't write things down, I easily forget. One spiritual thing I realized I forgot about recently was "The Jesus Prayer"....

#Ashes
I always find it humbling when the priest dips his thumb in the ashes, makes the cross on my forehead and says, “Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return.” That puts life into perspective in a way nothing else can....

Giving up worry for Lent Part II, Don't believe the Lies
“For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens. Therefore, put on the armor of God, that you may be able to resist on the evil day and, having done everything, to hold y...

Wonderfully Made
Why compare yourself with others? Comparison leads to feelings of unrest, envy and dissatisfaction. I have been given certain gifts for a purpose. My beauty is not to be compared against anyone else's. I was given the right amount of physical beauty for my role in life....

"Christian, You Decide"
The Lord God had a conversation with a Christian one day. “Christian, there are over 6, 909 cultures and languages in my world. There are 7, 298,158,660 and counting people living in my world. Of these around 2.0 billion proclaim to believe in My Son, Jesus, who I sent to the earth to lead you in...

Sr. Margaret's Love Letters
She wasn't the equivalent (exactly) of Mommy Dearest, but writing Sister Margaret a love letter felt about as genuine as that scene from the movie. Penned from the point of view of the actress Joan Crawford's daughter, the movie portrayed an abusive mother who required her children to quip, "We love...

Concupiscence, Lent, and Mind Obesity
"You are what you eat" the saying goes. I have found this to be false since I am not yet a Wheat Thin (my favorite since I was a kid). Of course I'm not an anything thin at this point, and so maybe that's the point....

What does it mean to be pro-life?
To be pro-life is not having a certain opinion. Pro-life is anything but an "opinion" pro-life is not a stance on a particular issue or set of issues nor is it a philosophy. Pro-life is nothing less than a spirituality....

Let us Sing for the Lord
This time of year, people constant ask me two types of questions, knowing that I am a Catholic teenager. The first is whether I have picked a college yet (the answer is still no, Aunt Gina). The second is what I have chosen to give up for this Lenten season....

Be Catholic Despite Your Bad Parish
When I first converted to Catholicism, I was so excited. Well, perhaps I was a little nervous but I had been listening to my, then fiancé, talk about all the depth, history and beauty of the Catholic Church and I wanted to love it as much as he did. He talked about the rich tradition and the unsha...
